Howdy,
Thanks for visitin’ our little website. I just want to give you a little background on who we are and where all this stuff comes from. Nominal Jim (aka Topdawg) has been makin’ topnotch junk out of low grade junk for almost 60 yars. When he was a youngin he would be pickin’ up all kinds of junk that neighbors and kin folk would just toss out into the back yard, figure out how to put several different pieces of stuff together (like two dryer drums for wheels and an old ½ horse motor when he was only 6). His daddy would encourage him by lettin’ him work on his old
tractor. Jim was fixin’ all the neighbors lawnmowers, edgers, motor scooters and stuff as he growed up, makin’ hisself some foldin’ money when all his friens was getting their 25 and 50 cint allowance. Thus was the beginnin’ of ‘Nominal’ Jim. He could take pritty much take next to nuthin’ and make it work. When someone would say “you cain’t use that, it won’t work!”, Jim’s answer was always “that part don’t know
no better!”
Well, it was only natural that ‘Nominal’ Jim started building, modifyin’, and soupin’ up cars. By the time he was 12 he was doin’ all kinds of things for the local boys, who were drag racin’ outside of town most weekends. Well, I got to tell ya, his reputation was like gold round these parts.
As I mentioned up top, Jim liked to collect things, cause he would eventually be able to use it for somthin’ he was plannin’ on buildin’. Every old car he could get his hands on for nothin’. Old car parts layin’ ar
ound in someones yard, or yard sales, or flea markets, or swap meets was his for the askin’ and a couple of dollars. You all probably know where I’m goin’ with this yarn, don’t ya? Jim begged, borrowed and stole enough money to buy an old wrecking yard down south (read Southern California) and he was in his definition of heaven. The ‘Yard’ had been around since the 40’s and was plum full of old car parts.
Well, Jim prospered, got married and divorced, that’s a story for another time, and did pretty much what he had always done……He bought and sold lots of stuff, but, he accumulated a whole bunch more than he sold.
When civilization started growin’ up around him, and the city annexed the part of of the county he was located on, the ‘Yard’ was now a target. The new neighbors, in their fancy new homes
called it an “eyesore”, and complained to the city, and, well, you know the story.
Jim was finally able to find a buyer for the property, but he wasn’t about to let go of all the goodies he had collected over the years, so……….he moved them. Smack dab in the middle of what has become an area that is about to go through the same kind of growth that happened the last time.
All this is leading up to the fact that he now realizes, that he is not going to have the time or the energy to use all this stuff he has collected for all these years. So here is your opportunity to get somethin’ for your old hot rod, or that car that has been in the family for 4 generations. We have some of the stuff inventoried and are working to add more to the lists’ already posted. We have also enlisted the help of several old friends and people Jim has had a working relationship with, to continue to seek out those old rare parts that can only be found at old car swap meets, car shows, garage sales, yard sales and flea markets. We are also lookin’ for the ‘good buy’ on the many old cars that are parked in the back yards, garages, driveways, dirt lots, and pastures that cover this great country. Our trucks are currently pickin’ up cars and parts, sohs we got sompthin’ you may need for that love of yer life (not countin’ yer wife or yer dawg), your car or truck.
Thanks fer takin’ the time to find out a little about us here at Nominal Jims’.
